ITANAGAR, Mar 13: The Arunachal Pradesh Women\u2019s Welfare Society (APWWS) has extended its heartfelt appreciation to Shri Toko Tatung, Hon\u2019ble Member of Legislative Assembly from 16-Yachuli (ST) Constituency, for his steadfast commitment to championing women\u2019s rights and welfare in Arunachal Pradesh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shri Toko Tatung has made history as the first legislator to raise the issue of polygamy in the Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly, advocating for monogamy in a bid to safeguard women\u2019s rights. His leadership has set a significant precedent in the state\u2019s policy discourse on gender justice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe need more leaders like him in the State Assembly who genuinely care about the welfare of women,\u201d APWWS stated, emphasizing Shri Tatung\u2019s remark that \u201cWhen your mother, sisters, and daughters are happy, the entire family is happy, and then society will grow.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the recently concluded session of the Legislative Assembly, Shri Toko Tatung took a bold stance against polygamy, addressing its detrimental impact on women and children. His advocacy, APWWS said, reflects the visionary leadership needed to foster a just and equitable society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

APWWS President Kani Nada Maling lauded his efforts, stating, \u201cShri Toko Tatung\u2019s courageous stance against polygamy has strengthened public confidence in the pursuit of justice, gender equality, and social reform.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The APWWS highlighted the severe emotional, financial, and social hardships faced by women in polygamous marriages, along with the psychological distress and instability experienced by children from such families. The Society also expressed concerns over the rising cases of substance abuse and mental health struggles among children from broken homes, calling for urgent legislative intervention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In light of these challenges, the APWWS has urged the State Government to enact a law banning polygamy, ensuring gender justice and the protection of women and children across Arunachal Pradesh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
