ITANAGAR, July 11:<\/strong> In a major development, the proposed Siang Upper Multipurpose Project (SUMP) received a significant boost as the people of Riga\u2014one of the largest Adi villages in the Siang belt\u2014gave their consent for the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the project’s Pre-Feasibility Report. This landmark decision comes amid ongoing protests and concerns from certain sections of society over potential environmental and cultural impacts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In his social media platform, Chief Minister Pema Khandu expressed heartfelt gratitude to the people of Riga, describing the move as a “step taken in the larger national interest.” He acknowledged the village’s vital role in shaping the region\u2019s future and reaffirmed his government\u2019s commitment to addressing the developmental aspirations of the community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Your trust inspires us. We remain firmly committed to fulfilling all aspirations of the people. Riga holds a vital place in our collective journey toward progress and prosperity,” the Chief Minister stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Echoing similar sentiments, Minister and local MLA from Siang District  Ojing Tasing thanked the Chief Minister for his unwavering support and praised the visionary leadership that has helped reach this milestone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Minister also  in his social media account stated \u201cThis is not just an administrative achievement; it symbolizes the people’s trust and shared commitment to inclusive development and sustainable progress. The MoU represents the collective will and far-sightedness of the people of Riga,\u201d Tasing remarked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite resistance from some activist groups and environmental advocates, the state leadership emphasized that the MoU does not mark the final implementation, but the beginning of a consultative, data-driven process.
