{"id":3578,"date":"2025-08-20T16:16:47","date_gmt":"2025-08-20T16:16:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/arunachaltoday.live\/?p=3578"},"modified":"2025-08-20T16:16:48","modified_gmt":"2025-08-20T16:16:48","slug":"public-hearing-held-for-%e2%82%b914000-crore-kalai-ii-hydropower-project-in-anjaw","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/arunachaltoday.live\/?p=3578","title":{"rendered":"Public Hearing Held for \u20b914,000-Crore Kalai-II Hydropower Project in Anjaw"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>HAWAI, Aug 20:<\/strong> The Arunachal Pradesh State Pollution Control Board (APSPCB) on Wednesday conducted a public hearing for environmental clearance to the proposed 1,200 MW Kalai-II hydroelectric project in Anjaw district, being developed by THDC India Limited.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The hearing, chaired by Anjaw Deputy Commissioner Millo Kojin, Minister for &nbsp;Women and Child Development Minister Dasanglu Pul also attended the meeting alongside THDC officials, and over 350 project-affected persons (PAFs) from 33 villages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image is-style-default\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"551\" height=\"523\" src=\"https:\/\/arunachaltoday.live\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/DSC07894.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3579\" srcset=\"https:\/\/arunachaltoday.live\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/DSC07894.jpg 551w, https:\/\/arunachaltoday.live\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/DSC07894-300x285.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 551px) 100vw, 551px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Recalling that her late husband and former chief minister Kalikho Pul had initiated survey work for Kalai-I and Kalai-II in 2009, Minister Pul expressed happiness that his vision was close to materializing. She urged locals to support the project, citing Uttarakhand\u2019s Tehri dam as an example of the far-reaching benefits of hydropower. She further assured that 50% of employment opportunities would be reserved for land-affected families, along with avenues for self-employment and entrepreneurship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image is-style-default\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"700\" height=\"401\" src=\"https:\/\/arunachaltoday.live\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/DSC07898-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3580\" srcset=\"https:\/\/arunachaltoday.live\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/DSC07898-1.jpg 700w, https:\/\/arunachaltoday.live\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/DSC07898-1-300x172.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>With an estimated investment of nearly \u20b914,000 crore, the Kalai-II project is expected to generate free power worth \u20b9318 crore annually after commissioning and contribute \u20b92.2 crore every year to the Local Area Development Fund. Officials said the project, one of 13 stalled hydro schemes revived last year through MoAs signed with four central PSUs, will create around 1,700 direct jobs while boosting infrastructure such as roads, healthcare, and education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image is-style-default\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"633\" height=\"399\" src=\"https:\/\/arunachaltoday.live\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/DSC07786-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3581\" srcset=\"https:\/\/arunachaltoday.live\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/DSC07786-1.jpg 633w, https:\/\/arunachaltoday.live\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/DSC07786-1-300x189.jpg 300w, https:\/\/arunachaltoday.live\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/DSC07786-1-150x95.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 633px) 100vw, 633px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>During the hearing, APSPCB officials explained the environmental clearance process, while THDC and its consultant WAPCOS Ltd presented details of environmental impacts and proposed mitigation measures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although the majority of speakers extended their support, some villagers raised concerns regarding land rates, compensation, employment, and local development.
