AALO, Aug 7 – The Red Ribbon Club of the North East Frontier Technical University (NEFTU), in collaboration with the university’s National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit, successfully organized a 5.0 km Red Run Mini Marathon under the auspices of the National AIDS Control Organization (NACO) and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. The event, held with the aim of raising awareness about HIV/AIDS and drug abuse, saw enthusiastic participation from students, faculty, and staff.

The marathon was flagged off by the Vice Chancellor, Dr. Tejum Padu, who addressed the participants about the alarming rise of HIV/AIDS in Arunachal Pradesh. Dr. Padu emphasized the crucial role that youth play in curbing the spread of the disease, urging them to be proactive in both prevention and awareness efforts.

Over 80 volunteers, along with teaching and non-teaching staff members, participated in the marathon, making it a resounding success. The event not only served as a platform to educate participants about the dangers of HIV/AIDS and drug abuse but also fostered a spirit of unity and health consciousness within the university community.

Certificates of participation were distributed by Dr. V. N. Sharma, the Pro-Vice Chancellor of NEFTU, who also highlighted the importance of physical fitness among the youth. “The youth are the pillars of our nation, and it is imperative that they remain fit and vigilant to combat the twin menaces of drug abuse and HIV/AIDS,” Dr. Sharma remarked.

The Red Run Mini Marathon was a part of NEFTU’s ongoing commitment to social responsibility and health education, further solidifying the university’s role as a proactive advocate for public health in the region. The event concluded on a positive note, with participants expressing a renewed commitment to spreading awareness and contributing to the fight against HIV/AIDS and drug abuse.
