Naharlagun, Dec 2: In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, Naharlagun Police apprehended an inter-state drug peddler, Ganga Bahadur Thapa, during its ongoing war against drug “Operation Dawn” on December 1 last. The operation targeted Thapa, who was allegedly smuggling cannabis from Assam and distributing it among the youth in the Capital ICR region.
Acting on credible information, a police team led by Inspector Krishnendu Dev, Officer-in-Charge of Naharlagun Police Station, was constituted under the supervision of SP Naharlagun Shri Mihin Gambo and SDPO Rishi Longdo. The team included SI Vivek Linggi, Ct Nogam Hai, Ct Kento Samyor, Ct Tadar Anek, and L/Ct Indravati Devi.
The operation culminated at the suspect’s residence near Kankarnallah Bridge in Naharlagun. In the presence of EAC Naharlagun Shri Khoda Bath, a search was conducted, resulting in the recovery of three pouches containing 30 grams of suspected cannabis from Thapa’s possession. A thorough search of his rented premises uncovered 104 plastic pouches and a polythene bag containing 1,500 grams of cannabis.
A case has been registered at Naharlagun Police Station under Case No. 146/24 U/S 20(b)(ii)(B) of the NDPS Act, and the 33-year-old accused has been arrested.
