NAHARLAGUN, Jan 4: The trailblazing initiative, Operation Dawn 2024 has emerged as a beacon of hope for the residents of ICR Naharlagun, significantly reducing crime and curbing the menace of drug abuse in the region. Led by SP Naharlagun, Mihin Gambo, the operation has achieved unprecedented success in combating narcotics-related offenses and ensuring public safety.
In its press statement, SP Naharlagun stated that, the year 2024 saw a dramatic rise in cases detected under the NDPS Act, with 41 cases registered compared to just 18 in 2023. The operation led to the arrest of 97 drug peddlers and the seizure of 7,912.73 grams of contraband substances—an astounding increase from the 707.89 grams seized in 2023.
A significant 43% reduction in theft and burglary cases was another highlight of the operation. In 2024, only 152 cases were reported compared to 263 in 2023. This decline is attributed to the operation’s focus on addressing drug-related offenses, as many thefts were committed by individuals struggling with addiction.
The police, under Operation Dawn, conducted extensive awareness programs targeting schools, colleges, and rehabilitation centers. These initiatives not only educated the public on the dangers of drug abuse but also motivated many individuals battling addiction to seek help at de-addiction facilities, bringing hope to their families and communities.
The operation’s success has not only disrupted the supply of illicit drugs but also safeguarded countless youths from falling into addiction. The resulting drop in related crimes has made ICR Naharlagun and its surrounding areas significantly safer.
