NAHARLAGUN, Jan 19: In a significant breakthrough against the drug menace, the Naharlagun Police apprehended two drug peddlers and seized 22.9 grams of heroin during an operation in Nyigam Colony, Naharlagun.
Based on credible intelligence, the operation was conducted on 18 January 2025 by a team led by Inspector Krishnendu Dev, Officer-in-Charge of Naharlagun Police Station, and included SI Vivek Linggi, L/HC Taba Nime, Ct Debojit Borah, and Ct Bakin Mitkong. The operation was conducted under the supervision of SP Naharlagun Mihin Gambo, IPS, and SDPO Naharlagun Rishi Longdo.
The suspects, identified as Md. Mazaharul Islam (24) from Kathari village in Morigaon District, Assam, and Smti. Musidah Begum (20),from Soraiki village in Morigaon District, Assam, were apprehended in Nyigam Colony.

During a body search conducted in the presence of an Executive Magistrate, 2.9 grams of heroin in two vials were recovered from Md. Mazaharul Islam. Further Interrogation revealed that additional contraband was hidden at his rented residence in Nyigam Colony.
A subsequent search, conducted in the presence of the Executive Magistrate and independent witnesses, led to the recovery of 14 plastic vials containing 20 grams of heroin concealed in a cooking utensil in the kitchen.
In total, 22.9 grams of heroin, valued at approximately ₹60,000 in the local market, were seized.
Both suspects were arrested, and a case has been registered under Naharlagun PS Case No. 12/25 U/S 21(b)/29 of the NDPS Act. The investigation is ongoing.
