APWWS Applauds CM Pema Khandu’s  Commitment to Field 20 Women Candidates in 2029

ITANAGAR, Jan: The Arunachal Pradesh Women’s Welfare Society (APWWS) has lauded the announcement by Chief Minister Pema Khandu regarding the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) decision to field 20 women candidates in the upcoming 2029 assembly elections.

The announcement, made during a recent party meeting, is being hailed as a progressive step toward empowering women politically and enhancing their involvement in governance and decision-making’ stated APWWS.

In a statement issued by Kani Nada Maling, President of APWWS, the organization expressed its appreciation for the Chief Minister’s forward-thinking approach. “This initiative will provide women with a robust platform to participate in governance and strengthen their voice in critical decision-making processes—an essential pillar of a healthy democracy,” Maling said.

The move is expected to lead to greater representation of women in the Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly, enabling them to address pressing issues affecting women and society at large.

APWWS also called upon other political parties to adopt similar measures to promote gender equity and strengthen democratic values. “We hope this initiative sets a precedent, encouraging broader participation of women across political spheres,” the statement read.
