ITANAGAR, Mar 21: In a major success against narcotics trafficking, the Capital Police busted an inter-state drug syndicate operating in Chimpu, leading to the arrest of two drug peddlers and the seizure of 60.4 grams of heroin, ₹40,000 in cash, and a two-wheeler used for drug distribution. The operation was carried out as part of Operation Dawn, an initiative launched by Arunachal Pradesh Police to curb drug abuse and trafficking through intelligence-driven crackdowns.
Acting on credible intelligence, a police team led by SDPO Itanagar DySP Kengo Dirchi, OC PS Itanagar Vivek Maurya, OC PS Chimpu U. Vibu Krishna, and SI Tamo Bakhang conducted a well-planned raid on March 20, 2025. The first breakthrough came in Chimpu, where Bikash Barman, a habitual drug peddler, was caught red-handed while attempting to sell heroin. The police recovered one packet of heroin and a two-wheeler used for transportation from his possession. Upon interrogation, Bikash Barman revealed that he was working under Junaki Boje, alias “Didi”, a key supplier in the region.
Based on information provided by Bikash Barman, the police raided the residence of Junaki Boje in Bidi Bida village, Zoo Road. The search led to the recovery of four additional packets of heroin, weighing approximately 50 grams, along with ₹40,000 in cash, suspected to be drug proceeds. According to police estimates, the total street value of the seized drugs is around ₹5 lakh, as heroin is often sold in small vials at high prices.

Initial investigations suggest that the syndicate sourced heroin from Assam and neighboring states, distributing it across the Capital Region through a well-organized network of local peddlers. The arrested individuals are believed to have played a significant role in fueling drug abuse among local youth. The police are now actively pursuing leads to identify other members of the syndicate and dismantle the network completely.
SP Capital Rohit Rajbir Singh commended the police team for their swift and strategic action. He reaffirmed the Capital Police’s commitment to eliminating drug networks under Operation Dawn, assuring that targeted raids and strict action against traffickers will continue. The police have urged citizens to report any suspicious drug-related activities to authorities, ensuring a safer future for the youth of Arunachal Pradesh.
