NAHARLAGUN, NOV 25:  The Naharlagun Police team led by SI S.S Jha, SI B.Sumnyan and ably supported by Ct Sanu Raj and Ct Lobsang Wangmu under the guidance of OC Inspector Minli Geyi recovered the missing girl child from Rangapara, Assam after locating her on a train within few hours of receiving the missing complaint.

In its press communiqué, Police stated  ‘on Nov 22 last,  at around 2340 hours, it was reported that one 13-year-old girl from C-Sector, Naharlagun had gone missing from her house and they got worried after she texted the complainant from one phone number stating that she is going away from her house and she plans to get married to one man in the army. After receiving the complaint electronic surveillance was put up and during electronic surveillance, the said number was found to be in movement along the rail route towards Tezpur. Upon further investigation, it was found that only one Delhi-bound train namely AC Superfast Express was around that route. Accordingly, the Government Railway Police team on the train was contacted and search was requested.

Accordingly, the Naharlagun Police team intercepted the said train at Rangapara with the help of Railway Police Force (RPF) of Rangapara Railway station and rescued the missing girl along with two other children 15 yrs and 9yrs at 0330 hours on 23 November last. The police team who had left immediately after receiving the information by following the train returned safely with three rescued minor girls.

During the investigation, the girl revealed that they have left home after befriending a 17-year-old boy and had fled her house to go meet him and get married. Along with the reported missing girl police team has also rescued two other minor girls traveling together with the missing girl without any guardian. All three minor girls have been handed over to Childline Itanagar for safe custody, counseling, and further handing over to their respective legal guardians. However, an in-depth investigation is being carried out to rule out any foul play.

Further, SP Capital while lauding the efforts of the police team also cautioned parents to keep a watch on their children’s behavior over social media to avoid such untoward incidents.
