Two Arrested in Namsai POCSO Case Involving 5-Year-Old Girl

NAMSAI, Sept 20: Namsai Police have arrested two Non-APST persons in connection with a case registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act involving a five-year-old minor girl.

The case came to light on September 18, when the mother of the child lodged a written complaint at Namsai Police Station alleging sexual assault upon her daughter.

Based on the complaint, police registered Namsai P.S. Case No. 69/2026 under Sections 70(2) and 96 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), read with Sections 6(1), 10 and 12 of the POCSO Act, 2012.

A police team led by Dy.SP Kengo Dirchi, SDPO Namsai, along with Inspector T. Gadi, OC Namsai Police Station, arrested the two accused, identified as Abdul Rehman Choudhury and Ashif Rahman Choudhury, on September 18.

Given the seriousness and sensitivity of the allegations, police immediately initiated measures for the protection of the child, including medical examination and the collection and preservation of relevant evidence.

The arrests were carried out under the supervision of Sangey Thinley- Superintendent of Police, Namsai, with police stating that due legal procedures were followed.

The accused were subsequently produced before the competent court and remanded to four days of police custody for further investigation.

Police said the investigation remains underway, including the examination of medical, forensic and other relevant evidence.The identity and other particulars of the minor victim have been withheld in accordance with the POCSO Act and applicable law. The allegations are currently under investigation, stated Police.
