Governor Participates in Vibrant Dree Festival Celebration, Urges Preservation of Cultural Heritage

ZIRO,July 5:  The Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, Lt. General KT Parnaik (Retd.), joined the vibrant Dree Festival celebration of the Apatani Tribe in Ziro, Lower Subansiri District, on Wednesday.

In his address, the Governor extended warm Dree greetings to the attendees, highlighting the festival’s significance as a symbol of divine protection for crops and the hope for a bountiful harvest. He emphasized the importance of fostering love, unity, and camaraderie within the community during this festive time.

The Governor praised indigenous festivals for promoting peace, harmony, and prosperity in the region. He urged the people to preserve and promote their rich cultural heritage. Expressing admiration for the women and children participating in the cultural program, he acknowledged their embodiment of purity and the divine spirit of the festival.

During his speech, the Governor commended the Apatani Tribe for their unique agricultural practices and the preservation of their pristine environment. He encouraged the youth to explore the potential of agriculture and its allied sectors, envisioning Arunachal Pradesh as the food bowl of the Northeast region. Additionally, he advised the youth to consider opportunities in cultural tourism, entrepreneurship, horticulture, and other service sectors.

As part of the festival, the Governor visited painting and photography stalls, appreciating the artistic displays. He also honored Smti Padi Manu, TGT (Science) of Government Secondary School, Hong, Ziro, as the ‘Teacher of the Year’ for her personal initiative in setting up a library at the school.

The celebration was attended by Minister of Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry, Veterinary & Dairy Development, and Fisheries, as well as the local MLA Er. Tage Taki, Deputy Commissioner Shri Bamin Nime, SP Dr. Sachin Kumar Singhal, IPS, Shri Tarh Tabin of Arunachal Indigenous Tribe Forum, and apex members of community-based organizations, along with the people of Ziro plateau.

The event featured a captivating cultural presentation showcasing the rich heritage and traditions of the Apatani society, adding to the festive spirit and celebration of cultural diversity.
