ITANAGAR,Nov 9: – The Arunachal Pradesh Women’s Welfare Society (APWWS) today called on the Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women (APSCW) to recommend the Arunachal Pradesh Monogamy-Election Eligibility Bill, 2023, to the Government of Arunachal Pradesh.
The APWWS has expressed deep concern over the rising issues related to polygamy and its impact on the social fabric of the state. The society believes that polygamy leads to the exploitation of women and contributes significantly to the degradation of gender equality.
The APWWS has drafted a comprehensive bill, the Arunachal Pradesh Monogamy-Election Eligibility Bill, 2023, which seeks to disqualify individuals practicing polygamy from contesting elections. The bill aims to promote the principle of monogamy as a fundamental value in society and to ensure that elected representatives are aligned with the ethical standards upheld by society.
The APWWS believes that the APSCW, with its deep understanding of women’s issues and dedication to promoting gender equality, can play a pivotal role in advocating for this important legislation.
The society has urged the APSCW to kindly consider recommending the bill to the Government of Arunachal Pradesh. The APWWS is confident that the support of the APSCW will pave the way for a more equitable and just society, where the rights and dignity of every individual, especially women, are protected and upheld, stated a release.
