CHANGLANG, Aug 31: In a significant blow to the drug menace in the region, the Changlang District Police have made major arrests and seizures of contraband substances under ‘Operation Dawn’. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, the police have apprehended multiple accused and recovered significant quantities of heroin in two separate incidents.


In the first incident, one Nayandeep Deka Baruah, a 29-year-old resident of Sivasagar District, Assam, was intercepted at Bordumsa with 177 grams of suspected heroin in his possession. A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and is being investigated.
In another incident, five accused persons –  Muttang Singpho,  Dongcha Taidong,  Arun Aggarwal,  Matcha Ngaimong, and  Ongja Singpho – were apprehended at Namphai-II area with 15 grams of heroin in their possession. The police followed all legal formalities during the arrest and a case has been registered under the NDPS Act for further investigation under Police Station Miao.
The Changlang District Police’s relentless fight against drug trafficking has yielded significant results, and these seizures are a testament to their commitment to curbing the drug menace in the region. Further investigations are underway to uncover the larger network of drug traffickers and peddlers, stated a release.
