ITANAGAR, Sep 30: In a significant breakthrough, the Itanagar Capital Police have arrested a habitual burglar and recovered a substantial quantity of stolen batteries.

The arrest came after a complaint was lodged by one Puleswar Lagachu from the ‘H’ Sector of Itanagar. Lagachu reported that on the night of September 21, 2024, around 3:00 AM, 18 batteries were stolen from his shop by an unknown assailant.

Following the filing of the First Information Report (FIR), the police registered a case (ITA/PS/Case No. 181/24) under Section 305(a) of the BNS. A dedicated police team, led by Inspector Khiksi Yangfo and including Sub-Inspector Inya Tato (Investigating Officer), Head Constable Marki Kamgo, Constable Tacho Ligu, and Sandeep Yadav, intensified their efforts to gather intelligence.

The team rounded up eight habitual offenders for questioning. Among them was Md. Enamul Islam, who had previously been convicted in connection with ITA/PS Case No. 160/2023 under Section 380 of the IPC. Recently released from district jail, Islam emerged as a prime suspect during the investigation.

Following extensive interrogation, Enamul Islam admitted to the crime and led the police to the location of the stolen batteries. All 18 batteries were successfully recovered, and Islam was formally arrested. He has been remanded back to judicial custody as the investigation continues.

The Itanagar Capital Police have commended their team for the swift action taken to apprehend the suspect and recover the stolen property, emphasizing their commitment to maintaining law and order in the community.
