PASIGHAT, Nov 10: In a significant boost to indigenous entrepreneurship and cultural heritage, Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein launched two varieties of traditional Adi rice wine—Pijin Apong (black rice wine) and Poro Apong (rice wine)—from Siang Valley, produced by Siang Beverage Private Limited.

Adi Apong, a staple in the Adi community’s cultural practices, is now recognized as a Geographical Indication (GI) product of Arunachal Pradesh, supported by the state government and NABARD Online.

DCM Mein commended Smt. Oter Ering Tayeng, ZPM of Mebo and the proprietor of Siang Beverage Pvt Ltd, for her dedication to bringing this local wine to market, noting it as an achievement for both local enterprise and cultural preservation. In his remarks, Mein emphasized the importance of supporting indigenous products to uplift the state’s unique heritage and announced plans for an upcoming GI Festival. This event will spotlight Arunachal Pradesh’s GI products on a national stage, aiming to promote and celebrate the region’s authentic offerings.

The launch marks a step forward in the preservation and celebration of the state’s rich cultural identity, with a call to action for citizens to embrace and champion locally-produced indigenous products.
