Banderdewa, Nov 16: In a bold and meticulously executed operation aimed at dismantling interstate drug networks, the ICR Naharlagun Police under Operation Dawn successfully apprehended five drug peddlers and seized 22.57 grams of suspected heroin over a four-day mission.
The operation commenced on 12th November 2024, following a credible tip-off regarding a shipment of heroin being transported from Assam to Banderdewa in a white Toyota Urban Cruiser (registration number AR01 Q3566). Acting swiftly, a special team intercepted the vehicle at Karsingsa block point and arrested Nabam Toni (27), a resident of Nirjuli, and Tana Tamin (30), from Khola Camp, Doimukh.
A search of the vehicle uncovered five vials of suspected heroin weighing 5.71 grams, concealed in the central storage compartment. Interrogation of the duo led to the arrest of their accomplice, Badong Ratan (31), from F-Sector, Naharlagun.
The arrests were formalized under Banderdewa PS Case No. 70/2024 U/S 21(b) of the NDPS Act, and the accused were remanded to police custody by the Hon’ble Special Judge (NDPS), Yupia.
During further interrogation, the suspects revealed that the contraband was sourced from Dharmendra Das, a resident of Ranga De-Reserve, Assam. Acting on this information, on 15th November 2024, a joint team led by SDPO Naharlagun, in collaboration with Assam Police, apprehended Dharmendra Das. A body search revealed 12 vials of suspected heroin weighing 13.44 grams in his possession.
Further interrogation of Das unveiled the involvement of Rajen Boruah (41), also from Ranga De-Reserve. Boruah was arrested, and three vials of suspected heroin weighing 3.42 grams were seized during a search.
The operation was executed under the leadership of SP Naharlagun Shri Mihin Gambo and SDPO Naharlagun Shri Rishi Longdo, along with Shri Kipa Hamak (OC PS Banderdewa), SI Koj Tada, ASI KB Singh, Ct Tade Bomdom, Ct R. Tsering, and Ct U. Gogoi.
With the arrest of five individuals and the seizure of approximately 22.57 grams of suspected heroin, Operation Dawn showcases the ICR Police’s relentless efforts to combat drug trafficking and safeguard public safety in the Capital region. Investigations are ongoing to identify and dismantle further links in this drug trafficking network.
