ITANAGAR, Dec 14: A 14-year-old girl from Assam was rescued from an abusive situation in record time, following a complaint to the Women Police Station (WPS) in Itanagar. The girl had reportedly endured sexual abuse while employed as a domestic help by her employer, Tapor Mara.
The case began when a relative of the victim filed a complaint after the girl escaped from Mara’s home, where she had been working for several months. The relative informed authorities that the victim fled due to repeated assaults by her employer and his family.
Thanks to the intervention of a Good Samaritan who recognized the girl’s distress and alerted Childline and the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), the victim was located and brought to safety. During her subsequent interviews with CWC representatives, she disclosed that she had been raped multiple times since she started working for Mara in September 2024, shortly after the death of his wife’ , informed Superintendent of Police -Itanagar, Rohit Rajbir Singh(IPS)
Following the victim’s revelations, a case was registered under WPS Case No. 69/2024, which includes charges under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
In an impressive display of prompt action, a police team led by Inspector Nich Rupa, alongside Constables Techi Mekap and J. Norbu and a CRPF unit under SDPO Itanagar Kengo Dirchi, apprehended the accused within four hours of receiving the complaint.
Authorities are continuing the investigation and are dedicated to ensuring that justice is served for the young victim. More details will be released as the case progresses, stated SP in a press statement.
