BOLENG, Apr 4: At least 110 Air guns were surrendered before Minister of Environment and Forest, Mama Natung during the Air gun Surrender Abhiyan programme organized by the Department of Environment here at Boleng on Monday.
Natung, while appreciating the people of Siang for voluntarily surrendering their guns said “Nature has been showering its blessing to us in various forms, so now it’s high time for us to give back to nature.” Air gun Surrender Abhiyan is not only a campaign but a movement to make Arunachal Air gun-free state, he added.
While reiterating his commitment, the Minister said the government is working on a policy to compensate people who have surrendered their guns. Further, expressing concern over deforestation, Natung also informed that this May, the Department will be holding a state-level mass meeting with all the Panchayat leaders to frame a resolution against deforestation as well as planting more trees in respective areas.
Earlier, responding to the demands of the local MLAs of the district, Natung assured to create a separate Forest Division for the Siang District.
