Another Accused Arrested In St. Alphonsa Public School Case after High-Stakes Interstate Operation

NAHARLAGUN , Dec 28: In a significant conclusion to a two-week-long chase, Naharlagun Police arrested 64-year-old Kurian Pallikunnel John near Guwahati Airport on 27th December 2024. John was wanted in connection with the water tank tragedy at St. Alphonso Public School, Naharlagun.

The incident, which occurred on 14th December 2024, prompted the registration of Naharlagun PS Case No. 154/24 under various sections, including 105/106(1)/125(b)/3(5) BNS. John, who was working as the Hostel Supervisor at the school, was tasked with overseeing the water tank’s construction as claimed by Shaji Cherian, the school principal.

After absconding on the day of the incident, John frequently changed locations to evade arrest. Naharlagun Police, led by Inspector Krishnendu Dev and Constable D. Borah, undertook a relentless interstate pursuit across Kerala, Kozhikode, Bengaluru, and Guwahati. Despite logistical challenges and the accused’s evasive tactics, the team tracked him down with the help of local authorities.

John’s arrest, carried out under a Non-Bailable Warrant of Arrest (NBWA) issued by the Hon’ble Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Yupia, .

Superintendent of Police, ICR Naharlagun, S Mihin Gambo, IPS, expressed his appreciation for the team’s unwavering commitment and credited the operation’s success to the coordinated efforts of SPDO Naharlagun, Rishi Longdo, and the Naharlagun Police Team.

“This arrest reflects our determination to uphold the law and bring those responsible to justice,” said SP Gambo in a press statement.

John is now in police custody and will be produced before the Hon’ble Court of JMFC, Yupia. This decisive action underscores the efficiency of the Naharlagun Police in addressing cases of public concern.
