Waifs & Strays Development Society Provides Relief to Fire Victims in Mengkeng III Village

NAMSAI, Dec 28: In a heartwarming gesture, the Waifs & Strays Development Society (WSDS) extended immediate relief to the victims of a devastating fire at Mengkeng III Village, Namsai District. The fire, which occurred on December 26, rendered the family of late Babul Sungkrurang homeless, destroying their residence and belongings.

The relief materials, along with cash assistance, were handed over to the affected family on Saturday. The tragic incident occurred while the family—comprising Babul’s widow, Anima, and their four children—was away at their farm, leaving no opportunity to salvage any belongings.

Speaking at the relief distribution, WSDS Legal Advisor Roinem Mossang expressed the organization’s commitment to helping people in distress. “Our society strives to reach out to those in need and provide assistance to economically disadvantaged individuals, including students,” she said. Mossang also urged the district administration to strengthen fire and emergency services to prevent similar incidents in the future.

She further appealed to compassionate individuals and organizations to come forward and support the affected family during this difficult time.

Accompanying Mossang were WSDS General Secretary Aungseng Mossang, Auditor P. Kimsing, State Coordinator Habel Thapa, and Deacon Father Hiranath Milli from the Changlang Mission Province.

The victim’s family expressed heartfelt gratitude to WSDS for their support in their time of need. “The help we received today has brought us hope during these trying times,” said a family member.

This timely intervention by WSDS highlights the importance of community support in the face of adversity and serves as a reminder of the collective responsibility to aid those in distress.
