Apex Professional University celebrated its 10th Foundation Day

PASIGHAT, May 11, 2022: APU, a leading and fastest growing university in northeast India celebrated its 10th Foundation Day today with joy and merriment and the celebration was attended by a large number of dignitaries and students of the university. A series of cultural, sports and literary events were conducted from 7th-10th May 2022 where students of the university took part in large numbers. The final and special celebration was held on May 10, 2022.

Apex Professional University, began its journey in 2013 as a Statutory University established by an Act (No.7 of 2013) of State Legislature of Arunachal Pradesh, which received the assent of His Excellency, the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh on May 08th, 2013 and published in the Arunachal Pradesh gazette Notification on 10th May, 2013.

Dr. P. Ajith Kumar, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of APU in his welcome speech said, ‘APU has undergone a rough and tumble ride in the ten years and marked its foot step which was possible because of the vision of Acharya Dhanwant Singh who found education as the best method to implement his vision and serve the society ’. Dr. Kumar informed the audience that APU established its ‘uniqueness’ in education by introducing the Indian Knowledge System and blending it with modern professional education. He highlighted the ongoing and upcoming programs of APU and emerging areas of education like forensic sciences, Ayurveda and Nutrition etc. He also shared about the APU’s future plan of making Pasighat a medical tourism hub through it’s Ayurveda and Naturopathy initiatives.

On this occasion, the inaugural speech was delivered by Shri Kaling Moyong, Hon’ble MLA, Spokesperson, Government of Arunachal Pradesh congratulated APU. He appreciated the management for choosing Pasighat, the oldest city of Arunachal Pradesh as APU’s location. He urged the students to take advantage of all the education facilities and other benefits available in the University campus to sharpen their skills and enhance knowledge. He said, ‘It is the right time for the students to concentrate more and more on the knowledge and acquire maximum benefits from various fields and equip themselves to survive the competition in employment’. He urged, ‘Students must maintain a positive spirit and refrain from drug abuse completely in order to be successful in life’. Sri Moyong suggested APU to start an awareness campaign to save the youths from the harmful impact of drug abuse.

Speaking on this occasion, Founder and Hon’ble Chancellor of the APU, Acharya Dhanwant Singh delivered a touching note along with the ups and downs in APU’s ten years journey. He expressed his determination and dedication to provide quality education to the students and said, ‘APU is like my baby and I uphold its mission in last ten years which was possible because of my education from the alma mater IIM Ahmedabad that taught me how to respond in adverse situation and how to stand for the dreams to be fulfilled in due time’.  He thanked the students, parents, public and government for their support over the years and promised that in coming days, APU will further progress to make it open to international students and to have 20% of its students from abroad. He said that APU will not be a small university but a unique university that will be Pasighat’s landmark identity

Chief Guest, Shri Tapir Gao, Hon’ble Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) addressed the gathering. He said, ‘Rome was not built in a day and the same applies to APU’. He said that both students and the general public need to work together in making Pasighat an educational hub of international repute and for that ambition, APU needs to prosper in the days to come. He narrated his experience of the demand of organic food in other countries and asked APU to start specialized courses on food and dietary practices under Ayurveda to disseminate the age-old knowledge and benefit to the world. He also urged the need for the youth to refrain from drug abuse and suggested APU to conduct health camps on de-addiction as well as to provide coaching classes for the students to prepare for competitive examinations.

Keynote speech on the occasion was delivered by Shri Kento Rina, Hon’ble MLA Advisor [Education] Government of Arunachal Pradesh. He narrated his own life experience to set an example for the students to learn from. He said, ‘that out of 85 students of my batch, I am the only one who completed graduation. Similarly students of today could take advantage of technologies and learn fast and cell phones are like a full time teacher for a student’. He said that despite his parents being addicted to tobacco, he refrained himself from consuming tobacco and asked the students not to give themselves to drug abuse.

The event was also attended by Councillor of ward no. 6 Sri Oyin Gao, Mrs. Dui Padung Gao, Lecturer, DIET Pasighat, Dr. Dangi Perme, Convenor Medical Advisory Cell and Ms. L. Tayeng from AP Innovation and Investment Park (APIIP) IIM Culcutta.

A prize distribution ceremony was also conducted where the dignitaries handed over the mementos and certificates to the winners. Traditional folk dances of Arunachal Pradesh were performed by the students of the University, which brought forth a local flavor to the celebration. MoU between APU and AP Innovation and Investment Park (APIIP), IIM Culcutta was also signed during the day. A book authored by Dr. Vema Kiran, Head, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, APU was released by Hon’ble MP Sri Tapir Gao.

On this occasion, the students of APU also presented a vibrant show of their traditional attires as well as its modern version in a fashion show showcasing the colourful motifs and indigenous designs of north east India.

Vote of thanks was given by Mr. Vijay Kumar Tilak, Registrar to all its supporters, volunteers, students, parents, well wishers and the special invitees for being a part of its foundation day celebration.

The day ended by singing the national anthem.

Apex Professional University, its also world’s first Indian Metaphysics University, was established with an aim to change the discourse in Indian Knowledge by making it multidisciplinary, industry relevant, and with a focus on intuitive skills and design thinking. Soon after its inception, the University Grants Commission (UGC) enlisted APU as a state private university on 28th June 2013 in accordance with section 2(f) of UGC Act, 1956. As per Ministry of HRD, Government of India, Apex Professional University is empowered to award Degrees as specified in section 22 of UGC Act, 1956. The University is also empowered to grant the Diplomas, Certificates, Pre University Certificates (Secondary and Senior Secondary Level) and other academic distinctions in conformity with the provisions of the Apex Professional University Act (No. 7 of 2013), Statutes and Regulations notified by Government of Arunachal Pradesh in the Official Gazette.

The University has been granted membership of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), New Delhi. The AIU membership is beneficial for establishing the equivalence of certification with other member universities of AIU in India and abroad.  The University has also obtained a No Objection Letter from the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi for conducting Technical and Management Programme and India Council Agriculture Research (ICAR), New Delhi for conducting Agriculture Programmes.

Apex Professional University (APU) is duly approved by Bar Council of India (BCI) New Delhi for Legal Education Programme and by Council of Architecture (CoA), New Delhi for Architecture Education. Apart from this, approval of National Council of Teacher Education (NCTE), Pharmacy council of India (PCI) and Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI), New Delhi for Teacher Education Programme is under process. In the last ten years of journey, APU has become one of the best and fastest growing universities of northeast India and provided education to hundreds of students of Arunachal Pradesh and other north eastern states.
