Watch Store Vandalized in Itanagar, FIR lodged Police Launch Investigation

ITANAGAR, Jan 8: The Itanagar Police has registered a case and launched an investigation into a serious incident reported at Genesis Watch Store, located in Akashdeep Complex, Itanagar, on 7th January 2025.

In its press statement, Superintendent of Police –ICR, Rohit Rajbir Singh (IPS) stated ‘as per the complaint lodged by the store owner,  Takam Tanio, at around 11:30 AM,  Lezen Gyadi, President of the All Nyishi Students’ Union (ANSU), along with three other individuals, entered the shop and attempted to forcibly take two watches without payment.  Tanio intervened and managed to ensure payment for one watch, which  Gyadi subsequently took before leaving.

Later, at approximately 4:00 PM, a group of 10-15 masked and unidentified individuals forcibly entered the shop in the absence of the owner. The group assaulted shop staff, vandalized the premises, and caused property damage estimated to be worth several lakhs. During the incident, the assailants forcibly took two DVRs containing CCTV footage and abducted two shop staff members.

The abducted staff were reportedly taken to the residence of  Lezen Gyadi, where they were unlawfully confined. However, upon learning of police intervention, the abductors released the victims and fled the scene.

A separate representation from the Itanagar Market Welfare Association (IMWA) has been received, raising concerns about potential threats and violence in the Akashdeep Complex. The IMWA has alleged intimidation by individuals associated with ANSU under the leadership of  Gyadi. This representation has been merged with the ongoing investigation.

A case has been registered under Itanagar P.S. Case No-05/2025 for offences under Sections 61, 117(2), 138, 238, 310(2), 329(1), and 351(2) of the BNS, 2023. The investigation is being actively pursued by Itanagar Police Station.

Efforts are underway to identify the suspects using available evidence, including footage recovered from a leftover DVR. Police teams are actively working to apprehend the individuals involved and ensure accountability for this unlawful act.
