PASIGHAT, Jan 8: In a swift and coordinated rescue operation led by the East Siang Police, in collaboration with the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), successfully rescued six boys stranded in the middle of the Siang River near Bodak Village on the morning of 8th January 2025.
The incident came to light on 7th January at around 8:25 PM when one shri Tum Padung reported to authorities that a group of boys, including his sister-in-law’s son, had ventured to collect riverine insects from the Siang River and became stranded due to rising water levels.
Acting on this information, a rescue team was promptly formed under the supervision of Shri Ayup Boko, APPS DySP (HQ), along with Inspector Akai Chama (OC Mebo) and SDRF IC SI A. Barua and his team. Equipped with necessary rescue gear, the team reached the site at approximately 10:30 PM and began their search using searchlights.
Despite their efforts, the darkness and ongoing rainfall hindered the operation. The boys’ location was confirmed, but for the safety of all involved, the rescue was postponed to early morning.
At daybreak on 8th January, the team resumed the operation using a boat and successfully rescued the six stranded individuals. The boys were identified as Opang Tamuk, resident of Renging Village, Punching Rai , Rajen Narzari, Sompa Marpache, Santosh Chettry, and Vijay Tamang, all from Raneghat-Pasighat were brought to safety without any injuries reported.
SP East Siang- Pankaj Lamba (IPS), commended the efforts of the SDRF and Mebo police team for their quick response, efficient coordination, and successful execution of the rescue. He also urged the public to avoid venturing into dangerous areas without proper precautions, especially during adverse weather conditions. (Report by Litem Eshi Ori)
