Papumpare Police Seize 650 kg of Cannabis in Major Drug Bust, Four Arrested

DOIMUKH, Jan 13: In a significant operation against drug trafficking, the Papumpare Police seized 650 kg of cannabis and arrested four individuals in a two-phase operation. The bust began on January 10, 2025, when police intercepted two vehicles at Sopo village and confiscated 140 kg of cannabis based on credible intelligence. The initial arrests led to the registration of Case No. 04/25 under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, at Doimukh Police Station.

Subsequent interrogation revealed that the cannabis originated from Ankaling village, Kalaktang, West Kameng District. Acting on this information, a follow-up operation was launched under the leadership of SDPO Radhe Obing, with SI Tage Saa, ASI TD Goiba, ASI MA Nur, and other officers. This operation resulted in the seizure of an additional 510 kg of cannabis from Ankaling village, bringing the total haul to approximately 650 kg.

The arrested individuals include are  Lakshan Basumatary (30 years), driver of the main vehicle, hailing from Assam, Occupants of the escort vehicle  Babul Nath (44 years),i Prabin Narzary (35 years), Dhan Sharmah (34 years) all are residents of Gohpur, Assam.

Efforts are ongoing to apprehend other individuals involved in the trafficking operation. SI Nako Ribya is leading the investigation, with the support of the Papumpare Police under SP Taru Gusar, IPS.

SP Taru Gusar commended the team for their vigilance and efficiency, reiterating the department’s unwavering commitment to combating drug trafficking. He also urged citizens to report any suspicious activities to help eradicate the drug menace and ensure the safety and well-being of the community.
