Arunachal Government Re-Suspends Officials Following AAPSU Ultimatum

ITANAGAR, Jan 21: Following intense pressure from the All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU), the Directorate of Elementary Education has re-suspended two officials, Shri Posi Gamlin and Shri Iken Riba, Block Education Officers at the DDSE Office, West Siang District, Aalo. The officials were reinstated in October 2024, despite their alleged involvement in the APPSC paper leakage scandal.

The re-suspension comes in the wake of widespread public outcry, fueled by AAPSU’s seven-day ultimatum to the state government. The union demanded immediate suspension of all implicated officials and threatened to lock down the Education Department offices if their demands were not met.

The initial suspension of these officials, issued in December 2022, was linked to Case No. 12/2022 under Sections 120B, 420, 406, 407, and 409 of the Indian Penal Code and Sections 7 and 8(13)(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. Despite public and organizational protests, the reinstatements occurred following a directive from the Gauhati High Court in July 2024.

In its latest action, the Directorate of Elementary Education stated that the re-suspension was necessary to facilitate a fair and impartial inquiry while preventing potential interference in ongoing disciplinary proceedings. Both Posi Gamlin and Iken Riba have been ordered to remain stationed at the DDSE Office in Aalo and are restricted from leaving the headquarters without prior approval.

Among the reinstated individuals are Tayang Gaduk (Head Assistant) and  Radek Romin (Block Education Officer), all of whom were allegedly implicated in the APPSC paper leak fiasco. However, the suspension status of the other two individuals remains unclear.
