International Press Card (IPC) issued to seventeen working members of APUWJ

ITANAGAR, Jun 07: The Arunachal Pradesh Union of Working Journalist (APUWJ) President Amar Sangno handed over the International Press Card (IPC) issued by the International Federation of Journalist (IFJ) to the seventeen working members of the union at Arunachal Press Club (APC) here on Tuesday.

Handing over IPC to members, Sangno said that the IPC is issued only to IFJ affiliated national journalists’ organizations and APUWJ is an member through Indian Journalist Union (IJU). IPC is one of the oldest and most reputable identification for working journalists across the globe.

He said the IPC is also considered one of the most effective cards for the working journalist which is accepted by more than 130 countries. IPC is an instant and internationally recognizable professional identification and is the only press pass endorsed by national journalists’ organizations.

“Annually, 100 applicants can apply for the card along with minimal cost for the jacketed card. An interested working journalist can contact the IJU through APWUJ for the IPC,” he said.

He said, as the card is one of the reputed cards it will benefit the local working journalist in cross border journalism as well as while reporting in any conflict zone.

IPC provides instant confirmation that the bearer is a professional working journalist. It is only issued to genuine journalists who are committed to ethical standards and solidarity between media professionals.

Sangno, who earlier attended the 31st IFJ World Congress- 2022 organized by the Oman Journalists Association (OJU) at Muscat, Oman, said that it was a privilege moment to attend as well as represent the country in international congress.

He said that he was nominated as a steering committee member for the proceedings of Federation of Asia-Pacific Journalists (FAPAJ), where he could share his opinions along with the IFJ members.

“The four days of the IFJ world congress was a learning experience for me. Besides meeting inspiring journalists during the meeting, it was learning about the working of various international journalist unions and their approach towards the safety and integrity of journalists,” he added.

He said, usually issues related to journalists in every country are placed in the meeting. Where a sturdy resolution is being brought out and accordingly it is being tabled in UN, UNESCO and to concerned authorities of the respective country.

The IPC was launched at Monaco IFJ World Congress in 1927.
