Banderdewa Police Foil Two Major Interstate Drug Smuggling Attempts, Nab Five with 93.15g Heroin

BANDERDEWA, Apr 12:  In a major success under Operation Dawn 2.0, Banderdewa Police have thwarted two separate interstate drug smuggling attempts, seizing a total of 93.15 grams of suspected heroin and arresting five accused individuals in a span of 24 hours.

First Operation: High-Speed Chase Ends in Arrest

On April 11, acting on precise intelligence inputs, the Banderdewa Police intercepted a scooter at the Banderdewa Check Gate, believed to be transporting narcotics. The rider, in a bid to escape, abandoned the vehicle and attempted to flee. In a dramatic turn, he jumped from a 13-feet-high wall, injuring his knee, before being apprehended by the alert police team.

The accused was identified as Maku Rangmo (27), a resident of Bana in East Kameng district. Following his confession, a co-accused Raja Limbu (26) from Naharlagun was arrested the same day. Acting on their leads, the police recovered 35 vials of suspected heroin, weighing 46.40 grams, which had been discarded during the chase.

A case has been registered under Banderdewa PS Case No. 32/2025, U/S 21(b) of the NDPS Act, read with Section 3(5) of the BNS, 2023.

Second Operation: Coordinated Cut-Off Nabs Trio from Assam

Later that night, based on another intelligence alert, police launched a trap to intercept narcotics being transported from Assam. Upon spotting the police, suspects in a Mahindra Scorpio tried to flee. A swift two-way cut-off maneuver led to the successful interception of the vehicle at Banderdewa Market.

Upon thorough inspection, officers recovered four polythene packets of suspected heroin weighing 46.75 grams, hidden inside the vehicle. The arrested trio includes:

Enamul Hussain (24) – Chanimari, PS Jagiroad, Morigaon, Assam

Enamul Haque (24) – Mauryadas, PS Dhing, Nagaon, Assam

Ainul Haque (34) – Mauryadas, PS Dhing, Nagaon, Assam

A case was filed under Banderdewa PS Case No. 33/2025, U/S 21(b) of the NDPS Act R/W Section 3(5) of the BNS, 2023.

The operations were carried out by the Banderdewa Police team under the leadership of SDPO Naharlagun Shri Rishi Longdo, Inspector Kipa Hamak, and OC PS Banderdewa SI S.K. Singh, alongside SI Koj Tada, SI D. Tayum, ASI S.K. Tiwari, ASI Anil Rajbar, HC T. Bomdom, HC T. Haging, Ct. R. Tsering, and Ct. A. Mishra. The team acted under the overall supervision of SP Naharlagun Shri Mihin Gambo, IPS.

SP Mihin Gambo lauded the Banderdewa Police for their vigilance and dedication in curbing drug trafficking along the interstate border. “Their timely actions not only disrupted narcotic networks but also reaffirm our commitment to protecting the youth from the menace of drug abuse,” he stated.
