ITANAGAR, April 11: In a significant breakthrough, the Itanagar District Police intercepted a narcotics possession case at the main gate of the Civil Secretariat around 1:00 PM today during a routine security check.
The accused, identified as Pankaj Lahkar (53) a resident of Lahkarpara Village, PO/PS Ghagrapar, District Nalbari, Assam, currently employed as a Dak Runner in the Power Department of the Civil Secretariat. During routine frisking, Head Constable Tago Nguki discovered a black polythene bag in the possession of the accused. Upon inspection, it was found to contain a grey cloth bag suspected to hold 46.11 grams of Ganja (Cannabis).
Acting promptly under the direction of Shri Rohit Rajbir Singh, IPS, Superintendent of Police, Capital, a police team led by Shri Kengo Dirchi, SDPO Itanagar, arrived at the scene. The team included Inspector Khiksi Yangfo (OC Itanagar), SI Inya Tato, SI Sita Paming, SI Padam Padi, Constables Nik Kabak, Tayo Bodo, B. Tani, and Buru Pali.

The suspected narcotics were formally seized by HC Tago Nguki in the presence of two independent government witnesses — Shri Kago Duri, Under Secretary (Power), and Shri Punyo Obing, Under Secretary (SA), Civil Secretariat.
Superintendent of Police Shri Rohit Rajbir Singh, IPS, lauded the swift action of the police personnel and reiterated the department’s firm stance on narcotics control.
“The Itanagar District Police are dedicated to maintaining a drug-free environment in the state capital. Today’s operation demonstrates our vigilance and commitment to combating drug trafficking and substance abuse,” he stated.
Investigations are currently underway to trace the origin of the narcotics and uncover any wider network involved.
