Naharlagun, April 13 : The Naharlagun Police have successfully arrested two individuals involved in separate fraud cases, following intensive investigations and coordinated efforts with police forces in West Bengal and Assam.
In one case, Debashish Kar (55), a jeweller from G Extension, Naharlagun, allegedly duped multiple customers by collecting gold ornaments under the guise of repair and remaking. After amassing a significant quantity of jewellery, he vanished and remained in hiding across various states.
A case was registered under Naharlagun PS Case No. 62/24 U/S 409 IPC. Leveraging technical surveillance and traditional policing methods, Kar was tracked down to Habra, West Bengal. A team led by SI N. Rama, Ct. Sanu Raj, and Ct. B. Mitkong, with support from West Bengal Police, arrested him. He was presented before the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Barasat, and brought back to Naharlagun on transit remand for further investigation.

In a separate case, Naharlagun PS Case No. 47/25 U/S 305(a) BNS, a local woman alleged that ₹4 lakh was fraudulently withdrawn from her bank account. The accused, Srinu Chekka (33), was tracked to Ambari, Guwahati, through sustained investigation.
A police team led by SI B. P. Singh, along with L/Ct. Dani Ampi, Ct. A. Perme, and Ct. T. Nikia, and with assistance from Assam Police, apprehended Chekka. He was produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Kamrup, and subsequently brought to Naharlagun.

Superintendent of Police Shri Mihin Gambo, IPS, commended both teams for their exemplary coordination and swift action. “These successful arrests underline the commitment of the police force to act decisively against fraud and protect public trust,” he stated. Both cases remain under investigation.
