Three Nabbed, Over 51 Grams of Suspected Heroin Seized in Twin Operations

Nirjuli, April 20: In a significant breakthrough under the anti-drug campaign Operation Dawn 2.0, police teams from Nirjuli and Papu Hills Police Stations carried out two coordinated operations on April 19, resulting in the arrest of three suspected drug peddlers and the seizure of 51.45 grams (gross) of suspected heroin.

In the first operation, a police team from Nirjuli Police Station, led by SDPO Naharlagun Shri Rishi Longdo and Officer-in-Charge Inspector T.M. Nekam, conducted naka checking at Dikrong Colony based on credible intelligence inputs. During the checking, two individuals on a two-wheeler were intercepted and searched. The police recovered 12 vials and a tobacco container filled with suspected heroin, weighing approximately 30.42 grams. The accused were identified as Almaz Ali (20), a resident of Bedlangkhaili, Chirang district, and Ajaharul Islam (21), hailing from Pandhuwa, Lakhimpur district, both in Assam.

In a separate operation the same day, Papu Hills Police Station team, acting on information about drug-related activities near the Tarajuli Railway Station, launched a swift raid. The operation was led by Inspector Torum Mai and his team, resulting in the arrest of Roshidul Hoque (27), originally from Bishnupur, Lakhimpur district, currently residing in Niti Colony, Yupia-II. During the search, five vials of suspected heroin were recovered from his possession. Subsequent interrogation led the team to a concealed stash at a nearby location, where 11 more vials were found, bringing the total recovery in the second operation to 21.03 grams.

Both cases have been registered under relevant sections of the NDPS Act at Nirjuli and Papu Hills Police Stations, respectively. The operations were conducted under the supervision of SP Naharlagun Shri Mihin Gambo, IPS, who commended the swift and effective action of the police personnel involved. He reiterated the department’s commitment to continue cracking down on drug networks operating in the region.
