ANINI, May 12: In a significant operation under Operation Dawn 2.0, the Dibang Valley District Police, in coordination with the District Administration, carried out destruction of illegal poppy cultivation in the region.
Acting on credible intelligence inputs, a joint team led by SI (SG) Chote Lal Sahani and Executive Magistrate Dr. Kajum Mara launched an operation near Angrim Valley village. The site, located between the Anini–Dumbuen Road and the Dri River, was found to contain approximately 110 square meters of illicit poppy plants.
The operation, conducted on May 10, 2025, involved on-site videography and photography for documentation. In the presence of independent witnesses, the poppy straw was seized, and the standing crop was completely uprooted and destroyed.

A suo moto case under Sections 18(a)/25 of the NDPS Act, 1985, has been registered at Anini Police Station (Anini PS Case No. 02/2025 dated 10/05/2025). The investigation is being led by SI Lokmey Boluk. Approximately 1 kg of raw poppy plant material has been seized and handed over as evidence.
While the district has previously registered NDPS-related cases mostly concerning drug consumption or illegal sales, this marks the first case of illegal poppy cultivation being detected and acted upon in Dibang Valley.

Superintendent of Police Manish Shaurya, IPS, lauded the swift and coordinated action taken by the police and civil administration. He further directed the investigation team to identify those behind the illegal activity and explore the possibility of similar cultivation in other parts of the district.

The Dibang Valley Police reaffirmed its strong commitment to combating the drug menace and vowed continued enforcement of the NDPS Act to maintain a drug-free district.
