Changlang, July 22: In a swift and coordinated operation, the Changlang District Police apprehended three individuals in connection with an alleged gang rape of a minor girl near Manabum Nala on the night of July 18.
The incident was reported to Diyun Police Station by a relative of the survivor, who also accompanied her to the police station. Acting immediately on the complaint, a special team led by Inspector Ongsa Ronrang and Inspector Bobby Sumnyan, along with other police staff, launched an intensive overnight search operation across multiple locations.
Following targeted raids in the areas of Shillong Pahar, Manabum, and Kamakhyapur, police successfully arrested the following accused persons: Chugolo Chakma (31) β Resident of Shilong Pahar. Amar Chakma (20) β Meat vendor, resident of ManabumSom Kumar Chakma alias Shanti Jivon (30) β Resident of Kamakhyapur.
The case has been registered as Diyun Police Station Case No. 19/2025 under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012. The survivor has undergone medical examination and has been placed in a Child Care Institute for counselling and safety. All three accused are currently in judicial custody, and further investigation is underway
