ITANAGAR, July 25: Amidst protests by Anti-Dam activists, villagers and recent report of China’s step to build a Mega Dam in (Tsangpo) Siang River, the Government of Arunachal Pradesh today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the residents of Riew Village—the second largest village in Siang District—for the conduct of the Pre-Feasibility Report (PFR) of the ambitious Upper Siang Multipurpose Project.

Gracing the occasion, Minister of Finance and Power, Shri Chowna Mein, expressed his pleasure at witnessing what he termed as “another important milestone” in Arunachal’s hydropower journey. “This marks the beginning of a transformative hydropower initiative and a continuation of a decade-long journey rooted in dialogue, understanding, and mutual respect,” said the Minister.
Reaffirming the state government’s commitment to people-centric development, Mein highlighted that being part of a democratic nation and a people-friendly government, it is essential to take the confidence of communities and involve them in development programmes. “Through awareness, technical education, and trust-building, we have made communities equal partners in progress,” he added.

The Minister also underlined the significance of leveraging advanced technology and sustainable planning to ensure that every infrastructure project—from roads to hydropower—reflects the goal of a truly inclusive and #ViksitBharat.
