LIKABALI, Aug 7: With a vibrant display of sportsmanship and community spirit, the 1st Independence Cup Football Tournament 2025 was officially inaugurated today at the Govt. Higher Secondary School Playground in Likabali. The tournament is being organized by the Likabali Sports Association (LSA) under the aegis of the District Football Association (DFA), Lower Siang District.
The inaugural ceremony was graced by Shri Nyakar Taipodia, noted social activist, as the Chief Guest, and Shri Ibom Bomjen, Secretary of BJP, Lower Siang District, as the Guest of Honour. In their addresses, both dignitaries lauded the organizers and participants, urging the youth to actively engage in sports not only to develop physical fitness but also to instill values of discipline, unity, and healthy competition.

Shri Dochi Riram, President of DFA, highlighted the significance of grassroots-level tournaments in nurturing young talent and promoting a thriving sports culture in the district. He emphasized that platforms like the Independence Cup can serve as stepping stones for aspiring footballers.
This year’s tournament holds special emotional significance as it is sponsored in loving memory of Late Takir Bui, with generous contributions from Smti. Yamik Kena Bui & Sons. Their support was acknowledged with deep gratitude by the organizing team.

The tournament will be played in a league format, ensuring every team gets equal opportunity to compete for a place in the final. The grand finale is scheduled for 15th August 2025, to mark Independence Day with a powerful tribute to the spirit of freedom, unity, and sportsmanship.
