TAWANG, Mar 17: In a powerful show of unity and public anger, thousands of residents from the 2-Tawang Constituency staged a peaceful yet impactful protest on Tuesday against alleged corruption, irregularities, and lack of transparency in the tendering process under the PWD Tawang Division.

The rally commenced at the Buddha Statue in Tawang, with a massive crowd marching towards the offices of the Executive Engineer (EE), PWD, and the Deputy Commissioner. Protesters raised strong objections to what they described as opaque functioning of the department, accusing officials of bypassing proper procedures in awarding contracts.
The protest was sparked by the floating of multi-crore tenders under various schemes, including SIDF and RE, without adequate transparency. Locals alleged that several works were tendered without due process, raising serious concerns over accountability. Adding to the discontent, the public claimed that the local MLA was not informed about ongoing developmental works and proposals in the constituency, which they believe undermines democratic representation and public interest.

Amid growing frustration, the people demanded immediate action against the officials concerned, including the transfer of Executive Engineer Er. Tadar Nyakpu and Assistant Engineer Er. Jumpe Ete, along with the initiation of a departmental inquiry. They also called for the cancellation of recent NITs issued on February 11, March 5, and March 13, 2026, and stressed the need for a transparent tendering system, particularly for projects exceeding ₹50 lakh.

A memorandum highlighting these concerns and demands was submitted to the Deputy Commissioner, with the public issuing a one-week ultimatum to the authorities. Protesters warned that failure to address their grievances within the given timeframe would lead to an indefinite democratic movement.
