PROTECTION WALL COLLAPSE IN ITANAGAR CLAIMS FOUR LIVES; THREE INJURED

ITANAGAR, March 16: In a tragic incident, at least four workers lost their lives and three others sustained serious injuries after a protection wall suddenly collapsed at Niti Vihar in Itanagar on Monday evening.

Executive Magistrate (EAC) Itanagar, Tamo Dadda, who rushed to the site soon after receiving information about the incident, said that around seven workers were present at the location when the wall gave way, burying them under debris and mud.

The deceased have been identified as Late Godak Raja (30), Godak Tagur (35), Ratan Burma, and Choki Tasar (23). The two workers who sustained serious injuries are Muhammad Hasinur Uddin, Choki Takio and Tatung Tajik, who were rescued and shifted for medical for  immediate treatment.

“Out of the seven workers present at the site, four were found dead on the spot while three were rescued with serious  injuries,” EAC Tamo Dadda said.

Personnel from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), district administration, and police teams were engaged in an intensive rescue operation.

However, the operation has been severely hampered by continuous rainfall in the area, which has made the soil heavy and unstable.

“Due to persistent rain, the mud has become dense and unstable, making it extremely difficult for the rescue teams to determine the exact location of the trapped worker. Despite the challenges, later rescue team manage to retrieve the body,” Dadda added.

Authorities are yet to confirm the exact cause of the collapse, and further details are awaited as rescue efforts continue at the site to check if more workers are trapped or not.
