NAMSAI, Dec 29: The United Circle Gaon Burahs Association organized the Gaon Burahs Conference at Hochayan Hall in POI PEE MAU Ground, Namsai, drawing Gaon Burahs from Namsai, Lohit, and Changlang Districts. Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein graced the event as Chief Guest, underscoring the crucial role of Gaon Burahs in preserving local customs, promoting peace, maintaining law and order, and fostering overall development in villages.

Mein, addressing the Gaon Burahs, emphasized the multifaceted responsibilities they bear for societal progress. As key figures in village-level administration, he urged them to stay abreast of village developments, maintain records of graduates and youth employment status, and organize comprehensive workshops for improved grassroots governance.

Highlighting their role as custodians of local customary laws, Mein urged Gaon Burahs to proactively contribute to the conservation of natural resources, discouraging activities like illegal hunting and fishing in their jurisdictions. He further called for stringent measures against illicit activities such as opium cultivation, drug consumption, and other antisocial behaviors.

During the conference, DC Namsai, C R Khampa, shed light on the pivotal role of Gaon Burahs and distributed summer-season GB Half Coats. Notable attendees included President Tai Khamti Singpho Council Phup Young Singpho, President Tai Khamti Development Society Chow Siharaja Chowtang, ADC Chongkham K Tikhak, President of All Arunachal GB Association Gichik Laling, and General Secretary Nabam Tahi.
