Itanagar Police Cracks ATM Vandalism Case in Record Time, Arrest Two Suspects

ITANAGAR, Aug 4: The Itanagar Police have successfully apprehended two suspects within 24 hours in connection with the vandalism of an ATM in the Ganga area. The incident occurred in the early hours of 2nd August 2024, when unknown individuals targeted an ATM machine operated by NCR Corporation India Pvt Ltd on behalf of the State Bank of India. The perpetrators damaged the machine while attempting to steal cash, causing significant disruption.

The crime came to light when Prasanna Borah, representing NCR Corporation India Pvt Ltd from Guwahati, filed a formal complaint. Based on his report, an FIR was registered, and a case was filed under Section 305(a)/62/3(5) BNS, along with Section 3 of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property (PDPP) Act.

In response, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was quickly assembled. The team, led by Kengo Dirchi, SDPO Itanagar, and supervised by Rohit Rajbir Singh, IPS, SP Itanagar, included Inspector K. Yangfo (Officer in Charge, PS Itanagar), Sub-Inspector Randhir Kumar Jha (Investigating Officer), and Constables K. Atraham, P. Tara, and M. Kino. The team swiftly mobilized, leveraging human intelligence and other investigative techniques to track down the culprits.

Their efforts culminated in the arrest of two suspects: Banu Jorum, aged 40, a resident of Forest Colony Chandranagar, and Takam Sampa, aged 20. The suspects were detained and subsequently placed in judicial custody, marking a significant breakthrough in the case.

The swift and effective resolution of this case was lauded by SP Itanagar, Rohit Rajbir Singh, IPS. He praised the dedication and professionalism of the police team, highlighting their ability to respond quickly and decisively.
