Lekhi, Nov 2: In a bid to enhance agricultural practices and raise awareness among local farmers, fourth-year B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture students from Rajiv Gandhi University organized a demonstration-cum-awareness event today in Lekhi Village, Sopo, under the Doimukh circle. This initiative was part of their Rural Agricultural Work Experience (RAWE) Programme.
The event drew a diverse audience, including farmers, children, students, and faculty members, eager to learn about recent advancements in agriculture and various government schemes aimed at supporting rural communities.
RAWE Co-coordinator Dr. Bai Koyu addressed the gathering, highlighting the significance of rural development programs. He emphasized how demonstration-cum-awareness activities can effectively bridge the knowledge gap among farmers, providing them with essential tools to boost productivity and resilience.
Dr. Avicha Tangjang, the RAWE Coordinator, further stressed the importance of maintaining field sanitation as a critical aspect of disease prevention and improving agricultural output quality. She also encouraged participants to cultivate entrepreneurial skills, essential for thriving in today’s competitive agricultural environment.
The students showcased several practical agricultural techniques during the event. These included the preparation of Jeevamrutha, a bio-fertilizer that enhances soil health, and the construction of a zero-energy cool chamber, an innovative and cost-effective method for preserving agricultural produce. Additionally, they demonstrated the proper technique for soil collection, which is crucial for soil testing and effective management.
Information sessions highlighted various government schemes designed to assist farmers, including the Chief Minister’s Agriculture Farm Mechanization, Atma Nirbar Krishi Yojana, Atma Nirbhar Bagwani Yojana, Deen Dhayal Upadhyaya Swavalamban Yojana, and the Dulari Kanya Vidya Scheme, among others.
