Education Minister PD Sona Completes Districts Visit as Part of ‘Chintan Shivir’ Initiative

ITANAGAR, Dec 20: In a determined effort to transform the education system in Arunachal Pradesh,  Minister of Education  Pasang Dorjee Sona has completed an extensive series of district visits as part of the government’s 360-degree educational reform initiative. The Minister’s hands-on approach marks a significant departure from traditional methods, with an emphasis on grassroots engagement and collaborative problem-solving.

Sona’s visits, which covered all districts of the state, were aimed at understanding the challenges faced by schools . By meeting with teachers, students, and local community members, the Minister gathered valuable insights to guide the reforms. His interactions extended to schools at all levels, from elementary to higher secondary, highlighting his commitment to ensuring inclusive development across the education sector.

The Minister’s final district visit to Anjaw marked the conclusion of the follow-up meetings stemming from the Chintan Shivir, a three-day state-level education summit held in August 2024. During these follow-ups,  Sona revisited the key issues identified at the summit, such as infrastructure deficiencies, the prevalence of zero-enrolment schools, and the lack of adequate human resources.

Speaking during his visit, Minister Sona emphasized the importance of education as the foundation of societal progress. “Through these visits, we have identified practical solutions to chronic issues in our education system. The merger of underutilized schools, addressing infrastructure gaps, and strengthening our teaching workforce are crucial steps in ensuring that every child in Arunachal Pradesh, no matter how remote, has access to quality education,” he said.

The Minister’s approach has been widely praised for its inclusivity, involving diverse stakeholders such as NGOs, community-based organizations, panchayat leaders, and student communities. His visits also provided a platform for local communities to voice their concerns and suggestions, ensuring that the reforms are both practical and community-driven.

A key highlight of the reforms is the decision to merge schools with zero enrolment to optimize resources and provide better infrastructure to other schools in rural areas. The government is also compiling a comprehensive database to address human resource and infrastructural needs systematically.

 Sona’s visits have inspired a wave of optimism across the state, with communities appreciating the Minister’s direct engagement and commitment to improving education. As the government moves forward with its roadmap for the next three to four years, the Minister has assured continuous collaboration with all stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation of reforms.
