Traffic Police & Nirjuli Police Seized Suspected Heroin During Routine Check

NIRJULI, Jan 13, 2025: In a major operation against narcotics under Operation Dawn 2.0, the ICR Traffic Police and Nirjuli Police achieved a significant breakthrough by seizing suspected heroin during a routine Motor Vehicle (MV) check near Bage Tinali.

The interception occurred when a scooty bearing registration number AR01Q4335 was stopped for traffic violations, including the rider’s failure to wear a helmet. The unidentified rider fled the scene after being asked to open the vehicle’s storage compartment, abandoning the scooty.

Upon inspecting the abandoned vehicle, the traffic personnel discovered a bag containing suspected contraband items. DySP (Traffic) Chera Saban immediately alerted Nirjuli Police Station about the discovery.

Responding swiftly, a team from Nirjuli Police Station, led by Officer-in-Charge Inspector T.M. Nekam and supervised by SDPO Naharlagun Rishi Longdo, arrived at the location. They conducted a thorough inspection and seized the following items:

  • 57 plastic vials containing suspected heroin (75.33 gm)
  • A plastic pouch with suspected heroin (25.6 gm)
  • One empty soap case
  • Three empty syringes

The contraband, valued at approximately ₹2 lakhs in the local market, is suspected to have been sourced from outside the state for distribution among youth in the ICR region, posing a grave societal threat.

Legal proceedings have been initiated under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and efforts are underway to apprehend the absconding rider, who has been identified.

Commending the swift and coordinated action, SP Naharlagun, Shri Mihin Gambo, IPS, lauded the Traffic Police and Nirjuli Police for their dedication in combating the drug menace. He emphasized the importance of continued vigilance under Operation Dawn 2.0 to curb the spread of illegal substances and safeguard the community.
