Banderdewa, April 4: In a swift and effective cyber investigation, Banderdewa Police have identified and apprehended the person operating a fake Facebook account under the name “Kungsuk Tagung”, which was used to spread misinformation related to the recent Banderdewa incident. The individual has been identified as Tapi Omit (37), currently residing in Doimukh.
The fake account had posted misleading information on the social media page Voice of Arunachal, particularly regarding the health status of a victim involved in the Banderdewa case. Acting promptly, the police registered a non-FIR case (Case No. 01/2025) under Sections 127 and 170 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023.
Tapi Omit was produced before the Executive Magistrate-cum-Circle Officer, Banderdewa, who has bound him down for a period of one year with strict instructions to maintain peace and abstain from circulating any false information.

The Superintendent of Police, Naharlagun, acknowledged the efforts of the Banderdewa Police and reiterated that the situation remains under control. However, he cautioned that tensions could flare up if the public engages in irresponsible behavior, especially on social media.
“We urge citizens to refrain from indulging in social media trials,” the SP stated. “Anyone with relevant information or evidence is encouraged to approach the investigating officers at Banderdewa Police Station directly, rather than discussing sensitive matters online. Misinformation only complicates investigations and disrupts communal harmony.”
Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely and have assured the public that any attempt to disturb peace or mislead the community will be dealt with sternly, a press release stated.
