ITANAGAR, Apr 8: In a major success under Operation Dawn 2.0, the Itanagar Police on Monday apprehended a suspected drug supplier from the premises of the Arunachal Civil Secretariat, leading to the seizure of a significant quantity of suspected heroin.
The breakthrough came at around 2:40 PM, following a telephonic alert from a vigilant Secretariat staff member who reported the confinement of a suspected drug peddler inside a bathroom on the third floor of Block No. 3. Security personnel had managed to detain the suspect, who was allegedly attempting to peddle narcotics within the high-security government complex.
A swift response team led by SDPO Kengo Dirchi, with Inspector Khiksi Yangfo, SI Kenter Tacha, and the Police Station ready party, promptly arrived at the location under the overall supervision of SP Itanagar, Rohit Rajbir Singh, IPS.
The accused has been identified as Vicky Chetry (32 years) currently residing at Zero Point near Gompa, Itanagar, permanent resident of Borgolai Milan Nagar, under Margherita Police Station in Tinsukia district, Assam. Notably, he is employed as a Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS) in the Horticulture Department.

A personal search, conducted in the presence of independent witnesses — Oli Koyu (First Class Magistrate, NDPS), Bapir Megu (Deputy GA, Civil Secretariat), and Punyo Obing (SPA) resulted in the recovery of:
- 8 plastic vials containing suspected heroin
- 1 tobacco container with suspected heroin
- 4 used 1ML syringes
- ₹32,760 in cash (in mixed denominations)
Further interrogation led to the discovery of more contraband hidden behind the bathroom window, resulting in the additional seizure of:
- 18 plastic vials containing suspected heroin
- 3 scissors believed to be used for narcotics handling
Total narcotics seized:
- 26 vials weighing 36.82 grams (including vials)
- 1 tobacco container weighing 7.54 grams (including container)
Combined total: 44.36 grams of suspected heroin
All search and seizure operations were conducted in strict adherence to the NDPS Act, 1985, including weighing, packing, and sealing procedures. A formal case has been registered, and further investigation is underway.
The Itanagar Police lauded the Secretariat staff for their vigilance and swift action, highlighting the continued success of Operation Dawn 2.0 in dismantling drug networks, even in sensitive and high-security zones.
