SJVN Releases ₹269.98 Crore Land Compensation for 3097 MW Etalin Hydro Project

Tawang, Apr 10: In a major milestone for hydro-power development in Arunachal Pradesh, SJVN Limited has released a land compensation amount of ₹269.98 crore for the ambitious 3097 MW Etalin Hydro-Electric Project in Dibang Valley.

The announcement was made during a high-level review meeting chaired by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, Shri Pema Khandu, at the Circuit House in Tawang on April 10, 2025. Shri Raj Kumar Chaudhary, Chairman & Managing Director of SJVN Ltd., informed the gathering that the compensation amount was deposited in the joint account of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) and District Land Revenue Settlement Officer (DLRSO), Dibang Valley, on March 26, 2025.

The meeting was attended by key dignitaries including Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister Shri Chowna Mein, Chief Secretary Shri Manish Gupta, Commissioner (Power) Shri Sonam Chombay, Advisor to GoAP Shri H.K. Paliwal, and Secretary (Land Management) Shri A.K. Singh. During the event, the compensation cheque was formally presented by Shri Shiraj Swan, Head of Project (Etalin HEP), to Shri Pagli Sora, Deputy Commissioner of Dibang Valley.

The Etalin HEP, with a capacity of 3097 MW, is one of five major hydroelectric projects totaling 5097 MW that were handed over to SJVN Ltd. following a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) signed with the Government of Arunachal Pradesh on August 12, 2023. Collectively, these projects represent an estimated investment of ₹60,000 crore in the Dibang Valley region.

CMD SJVN, Shri Raj Kumar Chaudhary, emphasized the company’s commitment to sustainable and inclusive development, stating,
“SJVN is committed to responsible and inclusive development of Arunachal Pradesh. The release of this compensation amount is a major step in honouring the rights of the local communities while ensuring progress of vital infrastructure projects for the nation.”

The Etalin Hydro-Electric Project involves the construction of two dams—one on the Dri River and another on the Talo (Tangon) River—with an underground powerhouse complex situated near their confluence close to Etalin village. The project is expected to be commissioned by December 2033. (CMO)
