Four Convicted in Major Drug Trafficking Case Under, arrested under Operation Dawn

ITANAGAR, April 29:  In a significant step forward in the fight against drug trafficking, the Hon’ble Special Court (NDPS) has convicted four individuals in connection with Itanagar Police Station Case No. 100/2018. The case, involving the supply and sale of cannabis in commercial quantities, is being hailed as a major success for the Capital Police under the ongoing anti-drug initiative, Operation Dawn.

As per the court’s judgment, Yowa Yare and Banti Singh have been sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for their role in supplying cannabis in commercial quantities. Meanwhile, Nguri Yayi and Charu Mala have each received 5 years of rigorous imprisonment for selling the contraband.

The convictions were the result of a meticulous and effective investigation carried out by Inspector Neeraj Nishant, Officer-in-Charge of Police Station Chimpu. His dedicated efforts and attention to detail played a crucial role in bringing the offenders to justice.

Capital Police also extended appreciation to the NDPS Public Prosecutor for skillfully presenting the case, which ensured that justice was delivered without delay.

In a statement following the verdict, SP Capital reiterated its zero-tolerance policy towards narcotics, affirming its commitment to tackle the drug menace through robust enforcement, public awareness, and preventive action as part of Operation Dawn.

Officials emphasized that the convictions send a clear message to those engaged in illegal drug activities, reaffirming the department’s resolve to safeguard the community—particularly the youth—from the devastating impact of narcotics.
