ANINI, May 2: In a major breakthrough, Anini Police have cracked a brutal murder case involving the killing of Shri Sanu Chetry (37), whose body was recovered from Shamshan Ghat on April 25 with multiple deep cut injuries.
The case was initiated following a written FIR lodged by Smti Amti Jog Maya Rai, sister of the deceased, on April 26. She reported that her younger brother had been missing since April 24. A day later, his lifeless body was found with sharp-cut wounds on the head, neck, and fingers — pointing to a cold-blooded murder.
Following the FIR, a case was registered under Anini PS Case No. 01/2025 under Sections 103(1)/238 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and SI Yon Yao was entrusted with the investigation.

Through prompt action, intelligence gathering, and confidential leads, investigators unearthed a chilling motive behind the murder — an alleged extramarital affair between the deceased’s wife, Maya Chetry, and one Aiken Erang , a resident of Meka, Roing. Acting on specific leads, police apprehended Erang from Mihindo village.
During interrogation, both Maya Chetry and Aiken Erang confessed to their involvement in the crime, revealing that the illicit relationship was at the heart of the deadly conspiracy. Their statements led to the recovery of the murder weapon, blood-stained clothing, and other critical evidence.

Both accused have been formally arrested and sent to judicial custody. Police have confirmed that further investigation is ongoing to collect additional corroborative evidence and ensure justice is served, stated a press release from office of SP Dibang Valley.
