AALO, Aug 22: In a significant step towards promoting public health, Darka Village under Aalo Sadar was officially declared a Tobacco-Free Village under the National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP). The declaration was made by Smt. Mabi Taipodia Jini, ADC & i/c Deputy Commissioner, West Siang, during a public programme held at Darka.
The event was graced by ADC Mabi Taipodia Jini as Chief Guest, Shri Tumpe Ete, ZPC as Guest of Honour, and Shri Kardak Riba, SP West Siang, as Special Guest.

Addressing the gathering, ADC Taipodia Jini highlighted the life-threatening consequences of tobacco consumption and appealed to volunteers and community members to remain vigilant in ensuring that Darka continues to stay free from tobacco and substance abuse.
Dr. Tsering Wangmu, District Programme Officer (NCD), explained the objective of declaring Darka a tobacco-free village, while ZPC Tumpe Ete urged both the youth and elders to abstain from tobacco use. Dr. Linya Lollen, District Medical Officer, also appealed to villagers to adopt good health and hygiene practices in their daily lives.

Commending the community’s role, SP Kardak Riba appreciated the efforts of the police and local volunteers in making the initiative a success.

The programme witnessed participation from Er. P. Padu, EE (PHED), HGBs, youths, medical teams, Humgo Rigo Drug Warrior volunteers, Panchayat leaders, and senior citizens, reflecting strong community support for the cause.(DIPRO)
