AWKDSU Defers West Kameng Bandh following talks with Legislators

BOMDILA, SEP 7: The All West Kameng District Students’ Union (AWKDSU) has temporarily deferred its proposed 24-hour district-wide bandh scheduled from 5:00 AM on September 8 to 5:00 AM on September 9, 2025.

The decision comes following a joint consultative meeting held with the four elected Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) of West Kameng District this morning.

During the meeting, the MLAs earnestly requested AWKDSU to defer the bandh and assured the students’ body that the legitimate issue concerning the 12 transferred teachers who have failed to join their respective postings will be taken up on a priority basis with the state government and the Education Department.

The legislators sought time until September 17, 2025, to ensure that concrete action is initiated and the erring teachers comply with their posting orders.

AWKDSU President Khambo Sakrinsow, addressing the media, said, “We have carefully considered the appeal made by our four local MLAs and, respecting their assurance and commitment, we have decided to put the bandh call on hold until September 17. However, if the matter remains unresolved within this time frame, and the 12 transferred teachers still fail to join their respective postings, AWKDSU will have no option but to go ahead with the bandh.”

The union reiterated its stand that the single-point charter of demand remains non-negotiable—the immediate joining of all 12 transferred teachers to their places of posting in West Kameng District.

It emphasized that the deferment is granted solely in deference to the assurance of the elected representatives and for maintaining peace and harmony in the district.

David Jebisow, Issue Vice Chairman and President-All Aka (Hrusso) Students’ Union (AARSU), said that while the bandh has been deferred, the student community must remain vigilant and united.

He reaffirmed that if the deadline lapses without resolution, the democratic movement will intensify further.

AWKDSU has appealed to students, parents, community-based organizations, and the general public to extend their continued support and cooperation towards the movement, which seeks to secure timely and proper education for the younger generation of West Kameng.
