Medical Fraternity Calls Off 48-Hour Hospital Shutdown Following Government Assurances

ITANAGAR, Sept 12: In the aftermath of the recent assault on doctors at the Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (TRIHMS), an important meeting was held today between the State Government and representatives of the Medical Fraternity to address growing concerns over the safety and working conditions of healthcare professionals.

The meeting, held at the Civil Secretariat in Itanagar, was attended by Health & Family Welfare Minister Biyuram Wahge, Home Minister Mama Natung, and delegates from key medical associations including APDA, IMA-AP, TFA, and TNAI. The medical representatives had submitted a memorandum outlining their demands, urging immediate action to ensure the protection of healthcare workers.

Both ministers expressed their commitment to the demands and assured that steps would be taken to safeguard medical personnel. In a bid to rebuild trust and mitigate fear within the medical community, the government also announced that a mass meeting with healthcare workers will be convened at TRIHMS, Naharlagun, on 13th September 2025 at 8 AM.

Following these assurances, the Medical Fraternity decided to call off the 48-hour shutdown of hospitals with immediate effect, while also reserving the right to take further action should the government fail to fulfill its commitments.

This development comes at a crucial time when healthcare workers are under immense pressure due to security concerns, and it is expected to restore confidence among doctors ,medical staff across the state.
